We will rock you!

I went to my first ALA national conference two weeks ago in Chicago. It was really fun and a little overwhelming. I thought the mid-winter was big, whew-EE!  I went to some really interesting panel discussions, meetings, and the exhibits hall was ridiculous.
I think that if I don't stay in academic librarianship I would most definitely go for YA. In the exhibit hall, the area with most of the YA vendors was my favorite.
My daughter is going to be 2 and I found about 75 books I think she should put on her "read" list over the next 12 years.
Unlike the mid-winter where getting books was pretty easy, the opening night of the exhibit hall was a zoo!
I wanted to get some YA literature for my friend (also, MLIS),  since I had "college" on my name tag a lot of people were not interested in talking to me. So my friend became my teenage daughter and I was able to score her 2 books.
The best part of the conference was listening to people who are devoted to certain aspects of librarianship; LGBTIQ, information literacy, emerging technologies, online instruction, and the list can go on and on and on.
I wanted to sign up for every committee and volunteer for every conference in 2014.
The conference was a few weeks ago and I am still sorting through the literature that I got. Yes, some of it is work related, but much of it is to keep me informed of new technologies, authors, library systems, and the like. California Library Association conference is in October in the LBC. I cannot wait. It also doesn't hurt that Henry Rollins is going to be the keynote speaker.
